German I & II

German I & II

Course description: These classes are high school level courses which will satisfy the foreign language requirement. Emphasis in both levels is on vocabulary acquisition and communication. Each chapter test will be followed with a composition or a group presentation. Students will be expected to be able to carry on a basic conversation by the end.

German 1 will take the students through present tense verbs. German 1 introduces the students to the basic grammatical structure, vocabulary, and verb conjugations. German 1 students will learn about German culture and will prepare reports on tourist attractions in the land of thinkers and poets ("das Land der Dichter und Denker"). At the end of German 1, students will meet the conversational past tense.

German II will begin with a review of material learned in German I. Grammatical structures at this level focus on verb tenses and pronoun use. German II students will learn about German culture (deutsche Kultur) and will prepare reports on major cultural attractions and / or famous noteworthy Germans.

Course Objective: The objective is learning in a fun environment. The courses will cover all skills involved in learning a foreign language: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and cultural awareness. In order to facilitate competency, many exercises, including oral practice and paired activities, will take place in class.
