High School Art
Art: It's an Adventure!
Course description: Genesis 1 tells us that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and then He saw all He had created and it was good. We serve a creative God, the true artist, who daily continues to make us into works of art. A bit of that creativity and vision can be found in each of us, His creation. In the first semester, this art course will venture into God's creation and discover the principles and elements of art. Students will use various media such as water colors, pencil, colored pencils, acrylic paint, paper and clay to create their own projects. During the second semester, students will learn about famous artists and their works of art. They will duplicate some of these works of art, or use the elements, principles, and techniques studied to create their own pieces inspired by the historical artist.
Our goal is for the students to appreciate the detail that God used in His designs and to find that creative gift instilled in each of them. We will have fun learning art, design, color, techniques, theory, and art appreciation in simple, practical and creative ways
Each week a homework assignment will be required that will expand on the concepts learned in class. These projects will be added to their portfolios along with class work. (Parents, all messy projects should be accomplished in class and not at home.)
Students should expect the unexpected! Art is everywhere, and we will learn to see things through different eyes.
