Art: An Adventure for Elementary Students

Course description: God's artwork surrounds us every day. From the moment He spoke creation into being, He has never ceased being creative. We each are one of His unique and "one of a kind" designs - no two are alike. In this art class, we seek to explore the gift of art within each student, focusing on the fact that each one has a unique talent given by the Author of Creation. Our goal in this class is to guide students to see God's creativity, not only in the world around them, but also in themselves.

In the first semester, we will explore the elements and principles of art that surround us every day. Student focus will be on seeing our world and art through a different perspective. Students will have the opportunity to use hands on projects that reinforce the basics of art. They will use various media such as watercolor, pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and paper to design projects that reflect art pieces studied. In the second semester, we will explore some famous art pieces from history. The class will examine how great artists used the principles and elements of art in their masterpieces. After class study, students will have the chance to create their own versions of these historical works of art.

Our goal is for the students to appreciate the detail that God used in His designs and to find that creative gift instilled in each of them. We will have fun learning art, design, color, techniques, theory, and art appreciation in simple, practical and creative ways.

Warning: This is not an "arts and crafts" class....we will be expanding minds to see the art that surrounds us and how we are uniquely designed pieces of art from the Ultimate Creator/Artist.
