Course description: This course will explore the following areas of law:(1) the Legal System, (2) Criminal Law and Juvenile Justice, (3) Torts, (4) Consumer and Housing Law, (5) Family Law, (6) Individual Rights and Liberties. The publisher describes the Street Law curriculum as one in which "students will learn substantive information about law, democracy, and human rights through strategies that promote problem solving, critical thinking, cooperative learning..." Class time will be spent in guided discussion of the covered topics. Guest speakers will include attorneys and members of law enforcement.

For purposes of graduation, this course satisfies the American government requirement or may be counted as an elective.

Instructor: Mrs. Monica McDaniel. Mrs. McDaniel holds a M.S. in Accounting - emphasis in Tax from the University of North Texas. She is a CPA (inactive) and worked in public accounting for 9 years before choosing to homeschool her children. Mrs. McDaniel currently serves as the coordinator of Chelsea Tutorials and as women's ministry director for Grace Presbyterian Chelsea. She is married and has four children.

Credit Value: 1 credit

Homework Level: 3-4 hours per week.

Registration Fee: $50 nonrefundable (applies toward 1st semester tuition)

Tuition: $150 per semester

Building Use Fee: The annual building use fee for this class is $20 per student, not to exceed $100 per family. This fee is payable to Grace Presbyterian Chelsea on the first day of class.

Class Minimum: Minimum of 6 students. If class minimum is not reached, class may be cancelled and registration fee refunded. A maximum of 15 students will be accepted.
